University of Jena and AOK PLUS set up student health management

The University of Jena and health insurance AOK PLUS join forces to do something for the health of Jena's students. University President Prof. Dr. Walter Rosenthal and Dr. Stefan Knupfer, CEO of AOK PLUS, signed a cooperation agreement last Thursday (9 April) via video conference. The aim of the five-year project is to establish a network that reaches the students in their living environment and provides them with tailor-made offers for health promotion during their studies.

"For four years now, AOK PLUS has successfully accompanied the university health management for the approximately 3,500 employees of the Friedrich Schiller University of Jena," says Prof. Dr. Walter Rosenthal. "Now we want our 18,000 students to benefit from the cooperation as well. Especially in the corona pandemic, the physical and mental health of our students is of great concern to us."

For Dr. Stefan Knupfer too, the cooperation with the University of Jena is a special challenge under the current conditions. "The start of the summer semester falls into an exceptionally difficult time and unsettles many – including young, dynamic and otherwise healthy people. Offers that are dedicated to establishing health-promoting living conditions for students against this background are therefore more important than ever. AOK PLUS wants to expand the successful cooperation with the University of Jena and focus more on digital services in the future.

Tailored Offers for Students

First of all, the concrete demand needs to be determined, for example by analysing the health behaviour of students and taking stock of existing health-promoting offers. In the next step, AOK PLUS wants to offer tailored basic and advanced courses – possible topics could be mindfulness, stress management, nutrition or resilience. Joint events such as Health Days are also planned.

A project management office will be created to link university and student health management. Within the framework of continuous quality management, the extent to which it is possible to place the topic of health appropriately on the university agenda will be evaluated.

Online the student health management can be found here (German only).
