Letter from the Chancellor: Mouth and Nose Protection at the University of Jena

Dear students and employees of the university,

together we have successfully pushed back the coronavirus on campus and in the city. However, as a look at other cities and countries shows, the virus can break out again at any time. Therefore, please continue to protect yourself and others by following the hygiene rules of the Friedrich Schiller University.

To make it easier for you, we have standardized our rules for all buildings and areas of the university.

It is mandatory to wear a mouse and nose protection:

  • generally in public areas, if the minimum distance of 1.5 metres is not permanently guaranteed during encounters. This applies, for example, in narrow corridors, in toilet areas, at entrances and exits, in tea kitchens and social rooms, at community printers, in the ThULB's open access areas (bookshelves) or when entering or leaving workplaces in lecture halls, seminar rooms, PC pools, etc.
  • when staying in closed rooms with at least one other person. This obligation does not apply if the minimum distance of 1.5 metres can be ensured and either at least 20 square metres per person are available in the room or the hygiene and infection protection concept of the Friedrich Schiller University (hygiene plan) is applied.

This regulation applies to all staff and students of the university who are present in the buildings and on the premises of the Friedrich Schiller University.

Exams: No mandatory mask at the workplace

Most important update: after taking up a seat in the ThULB or in the PC pool, in the lecture hall or seminar room and during exams, the mouth and nose protection can be dispensed with if the minimum distance of 1.5 metres can be maintained.

Stay healthy!

With kind regards

Chancellor of the Friedrich Schiller University
