In order to contain the spread of the coronavirus, the Studierendenwerk Thüringen closed its canteens and cafeterias in March. Since then, some facilities have already been able to open, in accordance with a hygiene concept. From Monday, 10 August, there will also be food again in the main university building (UHG). The cafeteria will then be open Monday to Friday from 9 am to 2 pm for students and employees of the University of Jena.
In addition to a breakfast offer, there are two warm lunch dishes, of which at least one is vegetarian. The menu can be viewed in advance online. In addition, cold and hot drinks as well as rolls, cakes and snacks can be purchased during the entire opening hours. As usual, all food and drinks can either be consumed on site or taken away.
Special hygiene rules (German only) apply. Among other things, guests are urged to disinfect their hands in the entrance area. In the interior, a mouth-nose cover must be worn, except during meals. Payment is currently, as in all other facilities, only possible with the thoska in a cashless way.
Other Canteens and Cafeterias
In addition to the UHG cafeteria, university members can still use the Mensa Ernst-Abbe-Platz, which is open Monday to Friday from 11 am to 2 pm. Here, as in the past, an out-of-house sale is also offered. The ThULB cafeteria is open Monday to Friday from 10 am to 3 pm and on Saturdays from 11 am to 3 pm. The cafeteria on the campus of the Ernst Abbe University of Applied Sciences Jena, open Monday to Friday from 11 am to 2 pm, can also be used by students and employees of the University of Jena.
The Carl-Zeiss-Promenade and Philosophenweg canteens, the vegeTable and the Carl-Zeiss-Straße and Zur Rosen cafeterias will remain closed for the time being.
An overview of all facilities can be found on the website of the Studierendenwerk Thüringen.
