Teaching at the University of Jena is still generally in digital formats. This also applies to the upcoming summer semester. It is expected that all face-to-face courses will be suspended until 17 May. The only exceptions are practical exercises as well as exams that must necessarily be taken in presence. At the beginning of May, the situation will be reassessed and a decision will be made as to whether hybrid formats can take place after 17 May. Nevertheless, there are some changes. Here is what is most important:
The summer semester at the University of Jena
All previously communicated rules on distance and hygiene will remain in place in the summer semester 2021. All university members and affiliates who are in the buildings and on the grounds of the Friedrich Schiller University are obliged to wear a qualified mouth-nose-covering (medical masks, optionally FFP2 masks). However, FFP2 masks must be worn in laboratories when the distance is less than two metres.
The university provides surgical masks for collection for its employees as well as for students attending face-to-face events. These will probably be handed out in the week beginning 29 March against presentation of the thoska in the cafeteria "vegeTable" of the Studierendenwerk (Ernst-Abbe-Platz 5) between 10 am and 2 pm. (Editor's note: Unfortunately, the delivery of the masks has been delayed and we can no longer issue them before Easter. We will inform you about the exact distribution times in good time after Easter. Status 31.3.2021)
Standard study period extended by up to two semesters
On Friday, 12 March 2021, the Thuringian state parliament decided that the standard period of study for students who were or are enrolled in the winter semester 2020/2021 and the summer semester 2021, will be extended by up to two semesters. Students who were or are on leave of absence in the winter semester 2020/2021 or in the summer semester 2021 will not receive an extension of the standard period of study for that semester.
The previous Corona Regulations of the University of Jena already deal with the handling of examination deadlines and certificates of achievement. What is new, however, is that due to the general extension of the standard study period, some application forms are now no longer necessary.
Long-term tuition fees for the winter semester 2020/2021 and the summer semester 2021 will be waived. This means that those who have already paid long-term tuition fees for the coming summer semester will get their money back.
