Letter From the President: 3-G Rule for the Winter Semester 2020/21

Note: Current information on the Coronavirus situation at the University of Jena as well as answers to frequently asked questions of general interest can be found on the University's FAQ page..

Dear students,

the lecture period for the 2020/21 winter semester will soon begin and I am pleased that, after three largely digital semesters, it is now possible again for you to engage in direct exchange with lecturers and fellow students in numerous face-to-face events on campus. Nevertheless, we must continue to protect ourselves well in order to make studying, researching and working on campus as safe as possible for everyone.

One of the most important prerequisites for this is the so-called 3-G rule, which you are probably already familiar with from other situations. In concrete terms, this means that both lecturers and students may only take part in face-to-face courses and face-to-face examinations if they are either vaccinated, have recovered or have been tested negative. How you can provide the 3-G proof, where you can get tested, for whom the tests are still free of charge, which consequences the lack of a 3-G proof will have and many more answers about the regulations at our university can be found on the Uni-Blog. Please inform yourself here in good time before lectures start. Participation in courses and examinations without a 3-G certificate is not permitted.

For students of human medicine and dentistry applies to all events in the clinical study section, which take place in the rooms and buildings of direct patient care, the so-called 3-G-plus regulation. This means that students must provide the lecturer with proof of their status as vaccinated, recovered or tested before the start of the course. Only a negative PCR test, which is not older than 72 hours, counts as a test result. For details, please refer to the information letter from the Dean of Studies of the Faculty of Medicine or the information at https://www.uniklinikum-jena.de/studiendekanat/Covid_19/Lehrbetrieb.html (German only).

If you are still hesitant about getting vaccinated against the corona virus, you can find, among other things, interviews with experts who answer the most important questions about corona disease and vaccination protection on university's website. International students can also find information here – for example, about vaccination appointments with English-language advice from the medical team.

We also make offers for your health and well-being with the University Sports Department and Student Health Management. You can find information about the courses on offer on the website of the University Sports Department. There is a special welcome offer for first-semester students: Until the end of the year, you will receive the UNISPORT card free of charge. In addition, the University Sports Centre organises the "Ersti-Kick-off" – a team training session where you can get to know your fellow students. More information is available here (German only). As Jena is now subject to warning level 1 of the Thuringian early warning system, participation in indoor sports is only possible if the 3-G regulation is observed.

On the university blog and on social media, we will regularly inform you about further offers from the university and about the conditions of studying in the pandemic.

I wish you all a good start to the winter semester!

Best wishes

Prof. Dr Walter Rosenthal
President of the Friedrich Schiller University of Jena
