With an extensive campaign at the beginning of the winter semester, the University of Jena called on students and lecturers to get vaccinated to protect themselves and others - both at the university and in private life. In interviews, experts from the university hospital provided information about the vaccine.

On the campus at Ernst-Abbe-Platz, mobile vaccination teams administered around 500 vaccination doses on three occasions. University President Prof. Walter Rosenthal - himself a doctor and pharmacologist - supported the medical staff of the Arbeiter-Samariter-Bund during the campaign on 10 November and provided information to those interested in vaccination.
The prominent physician and television host Eckardt von Hirschhausen was also present and, accompanied by the media, had his vaccination refreshed.
"We are trying everything in our power to increase vaccination rates," President Rosenthal summarised the University's goal. "When the vaccination rate is high, there are many more mild courses. Vaccinated people rarely have to go to hospital - unvaccinated people, on the other hand, fall seriously ill more often."
Continuation of campus vaccination is in planning
Due to the great interest, the university is currently planning to offer another vaccination opportunity on campus.
More information about the Corona vaccination for students is available on the University websites. For the latest information on the Corona situation at the university, see the FAQ pages.
